Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she’s losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.
This book is really amazing! The story is so beautiful, happy and sad in the same time and I think this is the only book which took me so many tears. If you want to read a book with a true story and which puts you on thoughts, you should read Slammed. The book is so powerful tat even if you aren’t so sensible, you would definitely cry. It’s too beautiful and too well written.
Lake and Will’s story is strong, sad and happy in the same time. It’s not just a love story. It’s about life and how unfair could it be. This book is a life lesson and you MUST READ IT! Just after a few minutes since they’ve met, between Lake and Will was a huge attraction. They couldn’t resist, but then something keeps them apart.
They both were broken, they both had a sad story. Will was orphan and he had to take care of his little brother Caulder. Their parents died in a car accident and they only had each other. Caulder was Will’s priority but the life taught him something else. You never, ever should ignore your heart.
“So you keep your ocean, I’ll take the Lake.”
Lake was also broken. Her father died and now is just her, her brother and her mother. When she met Will, she fell in love with him and she needed him in her life. Even if her mother was always there with her, she just wanted to be loved. Her mother was awesome and she loved her kids with all of her heart. She wanted the best for them and they wanted her to sstay longer with them because they needed her.
“To my babies,
Merry Christmas. I’m sorry if these letters have caught you both by surprise. There is just so much more I have to say. I know you thought I was done giving advice, but I couldn’t leave without reiterating a few things in writing. You may not relate to these things now, but someday you will. I wasn’t able to be around forever, but I hope that my words can be.
-Don’t stop making basagna. Basagna is good. Wait until a day when there is no bad news, and bake a damn basagna.
-Find a balance between head and heart. Hopefully you’ve found that Lake, and you can help Kel sort it out when he gets to that point.
-Push your boundaries, that’s what they’re there for.
-I’m stealing this snippet from your favorite band, Lake. „Always remember there is nothing worth sharing, like the love that let us share our name.”
-Don’t take life too seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it.
-And Laugh a lot. Never go a day without laughing at least once.
-Never judge others. You both know good and well how unexpected events can change who a person is. Always keep that in mind. You never know what someone else is experiencing within their own life.
-Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passions. If you don’t have questions, you’ll never find answers.
-Be accepting. Of everything. People’s differences, their similarities, their choices, their personalities. Sometimes it takes a variety to make a good collection. The same goes for people.
-Choose your battles, but don’t choose very many.
-Keep an open mind; it’s the only way new things can get in.
-And last but not least, not the tiniest bit least. Never regret.
Thank you both for giving me the best years of my life.
Especially the last one.
Kel and Caulder were so sweet and they had each other. They became best friends since they saw each other and maybe if they didn’t exist, Will and Lake wouldn’t be together. They were just amazing.
I liked this book because it had poetry. And in every poetry was a story.
I want to talk a little bit about the characters. I’ll start with Eddie because she was my favorite character. She was a real frien for Lake and she was there with her when Lake needed her. She was so funny and those characters are very important in a book.
Javi was an asshole and he deserved what Will has done to him, even if after that he had to move.
Nick was nice, but was a little stupid, but he respected Lake’s decisions.
Gavin was nice and he was on Lake’s side, even he didn’t appear very much in the book.
And now I want to talk about Lake and Will’s love story. Because is a little (very) complicated 🙂
They loved each other and they knew that they can’t be together, but it didn’t change anything because their love was still there. They tried to be friends, but they couldn’t because there was always a moment when they kissed and I’m so sad because those moments weren’t so frequent. Anyway, when they weren’t together, they had a lot of troubles. But even if the life was harsh with them, they find a way to go through it and they have each other and their little brothers. They were a family.
“I got schooled this year
A boy that I’m seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing of all…
To put the emphasis
On life .”
You must read this book because it’s amazing. One of the best books I’ve read this year. And if you think that your life is hard, then think that in this world are thousands of people with a harder life than yours and they don’t complain.
“Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passion. If you don’t have questions, you’ll never find answers.”
What do you think?
